Matt Riddle and Bill Goldberg had a turbulent relationship, marked by mutual dislike during their time as WWE Superstars. Although their relationship has since improved, Riddle previously criticized Goldberg as an unsafe worker. Riddle has now provided an explanation for his comments.
Goldberg endured two concussions during his notorious match against The Undertaker at WWE Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia in 2019. The first concussion occurred backstage when Goldberg accidentally headbutted a door. He suffered a second concussion during the match itself after mistiming a spear and colliding with the ring post.
While a WWE NXT star, Riddle criticised Goldberg, calling him “unsafe, dangerous, and a liability.” In an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Riddle explained that he felt “compelled” to speak out.
Riddle mentioned that his dissatisfaction with Goldberg began with their initial interactions. He was particularly frustrated after seeing Goldberg’s performance in a match against The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia, which he felt was problematic. Riddle’s remarks were driven by his concern over safety and the impact of Goldberg’s actions, including a notable incident where Goldberg injured himself by headbutting a door.
“So when I see somebody injure someone or not do something properly or headbutt a door and give themselves a concussion and then botch everything, I’m gonna kinda bust your balls a little bit. And with the initial action between me and Goldberg, wasn’t a huge fan, but then when he had that match with Undertaker in Saudi, I mean, I was in NXT, I felt like I had to say something. I was compelled.”
Matt Riddle has also revealed that Goldberg bragged about his bank account to him during their first interaction. Nonetheless, Riddle and Goldberg will always have an interesting relationship and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
