The ongoing feud between MJF and Will Ospreay over the previously discarded International and now AEW American Championship has been prevalent for weeks and reached a new development this week.
On the August 7 edition of AEW Dynamite, The Salt of the Earth was scheduled to battle Kyle Fletcher, one of Ospreay’s close friends and a Don Callis family member, in a title eliminator match, just a few weeks before he and Ospreay collide once again at AEW All In. Moreover, Ospreay kept a close watch on the contest from the backstage area.
The action went back and forth between MJF and Fletcher, with the audience in attendance enthralled to witness the in-ring action. Both men brought heavy artillery to the bout and hit each other with their best move sets as the action spilled all over ringside.
The final moments of the match saw some trash-talking and hard-hitting moves with multiple near falls. It was then that Don Callis, who was at commentary, came down to the ring, giving Kyle Fletcher the chance to use a screwdriver that he passed to him. However, his hesitation led to MJF hitting a low blow, followed by the brainbuster to secure the pinfall.
At the end of the match, Will Ospreay managed to get out of his locker room after the door was seemingly blocked. On the other hand, MJF dropped both the referee and Kyle Fletcher with the AEW diamond ring. As he continued the assault, MJF looked to deliver Tiger driver 91, only for Ospreay to reach in time to save his friend while MJF escaped his grasp.
