The 2024 Olympics are underway in Paris, and headlines are starting to appear as the games wrap up and athletes are awarded medals. Through all the controversy that this year’s games brought, one Olympian from Cuba has caught Kurt Angle’s attention, along with the rest of the world.

Cuban wrestler Mijain López Núñez retired after the 130-kilogram Greco-Roman wrestling final at the Paris Olympics, going out as a wrestling legend and his competitor’s hero. López Núñez, who is 41, defeated Chilean Yasmani Acosta Fernández 6-0. The win earned López Núñez his fifth consecutive gold medal, making history as the first Olympic athlete to win gold in any event at five consecutive games and the first wrestler to win five gold medals.

Kurt Angle watched Lopez’s career unfold and had to acknowledge his achievements. The Olympic Hero logged onto Twitter to praise him for being the best wrestler in the world.

“I usually don’t discuss athletes outside the USA, but this guy did something nobody in history ever did. He’s won 5 gold medals in 5 different Olympics. Mijain Lopez!!! 41 years of age and STILL the best wrestler in the world.”

We will have to see if Kurt Angle makes a return to WWE. He seems open to taking a role with Triple H’s creative direction, but it stands to reason that they need to offer him something first. You never know if Angle may come back to WWE, but his days in the ring are long behind him.
