Pro wrestling fans like to keep up with anyone who used to wrestle for WWE, and that especially goes for those who never left the business. Now, former Superstar Matthew Rehwoldt has a revealing post for fans, because he’s going through a rather uncomfortable situation.

In a recent personal and vulnerable post, former WWE Superstar Matthew Rehwoldt, known to fans as Aiden English, shared some surprising news about his health with his followers. At just 36 years old, Rehwoldt has been diagnosed with shingles, a condition more commonly associated with older individuals.

Matthew Rehwoldt has developed shingles, a condition usually associated with older people but increasingly seen in younger individuals. He’s only 36-years-old as well. He let fans know about his situation while dropping a couple photos as illustration.

“Vulnerable post: so it turns out that a 36 I’ve developed a case of shingles. Yes it’s a condition that’s typically seen in older or elderly people, but has been seen to crop up in younger people more and more lately. It’s a variation on the same virus as the chickenpox, and even though these patches of rash are small, they cause lightning sharp pain at various times throughout the day. I can’t go to the gym. I can’t sleep comfortably.”

“Thankfully, with the help of some doctors that should clear up in the next week . I’ve been told that stress can be a key factor in bringing this on, so I’m posting this as a reminder of the importance of taking time for self-care and treating your body and your mind, right… physical manifestations will happen if you neglect that. Wellness and balance is key – and even though I thought I was feeling pretty good my body has kept me in check clearly! This is just to say take care of yourself and when stress is really high, please don’t be afraid to seek help!”

Shingles, a variation of the chickenpox virus, causes intense pain despite the rash being small. The condition has prevented him from going to the gym and sleeping comfortably, but he expects it to clear up with medical help within a week. Stress can trigger shingles, so he emphasizes the importance of self-care and warns that neglecting it can lead to physical manifestations. We’re hoping that Rehwoldt can get over this situation and get back to 100%.

After being released from his WWE contract on April 15, 2020, due to budget cuts from the COVID-19 pandemic, Matthew Rehwoldt began working on the independent circuit under his real name. Then he found a new home in TNA Wrestling.

Rehwoldt’s arrival to Impact Wrestling was promoted through a vignette aired at Slammiversary on July 17, 2021. He made his debut at Homecoming, teaming with Deonna Purrazzo to win the Homecoming tournament, thus becoming the Homecoming King and Queen. In early 2022, Rehwoldt transitioned to a regular role on the commentary team, replacing D’Lo Brown, and retired from wrestling to focus on his work as a commentator.
