CM Punk’s arrival in AEW was met with great excitement, marking a new chapter in his storied career. However, his time with the company took an unexpected turn, leading to his release last year. Bryan Danielson has now disclosed his current relationship status with Punk following his departure from AEW.

CM Punk’s debut in AEW in 2021 was a landmark moment, establishing him as a significant presence in the promotion. He achieved a major milestone by winning the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing 2022. However, his championship run was disrupted by injuries, including a torn triceps sustained during the contentious Brawl Out incident at AEW All Out 2022.

Punk made a notable comeback in June 2023, playing a central role on AEW Collision. Yet, his time with AEW ended suddenly after a clash with Jack Perry, which resulted in his contract being terminated. Following his departure from AEW, Punk made an unexpected return to WWE at Survivor Series later that year.

Bryan Danielson was also part of the disciplinary committee that ultimately chose to fire CM Punk. While speaking to Gorilla Position, when asked about his relationship with CM Punk following Punk’s firing from AEW, Bryan Danielson mentioned that he hasn’t had any communication with Punk since before the disciplinary decision was made.

Danielson was advised not to reach out due to the legal matters involved, as he is not a lawyer or even a college graduate. He noted that the last time they spoke was likely the week before All In last year or possibly a bit earlier.

“Honestly, I haven’t spoken to him since before the decision was made as part of the disciplinary committee. I was advised that it’s best not to reach out to him because there are legal matters involved, and I’m not a lawyer—I’m not even a college graduate. So, that’s pretty much the last time we talked. I want to say it was the week before All In last year, or maybe just a little before that.”

With that said, CM Punk wasn’t a fan of AEW airing the All In backstage footage. CM Punk also distanced himself from AEW significantly, making it clear he wants no further association with the company. Despite this, both parties have now moved on from the situation, and that’s what truly matters.
