At the 2024 WWE Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada, John Cena announced his upcoming retirement from professional wrestling. Although his farewell tour won’t start until next year, Cena has already shared some details about what fans can expect from it.
In his announcement, John Cena revealed that he will be present for RAW’s move to Netflix. He also disclosed that his final wrestling appearances will be at the Royal Rumble, the Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 2025. Instead of a single retirement match, Cena will embark on a farewell tour in 2025, spanning 100 dates. His in-ring career will conclude in December 2025.
While speaking to Extra, John Cena talked about his upcoming WWE retirement tour, expressing his excitement and gratitude. He stated that the tour would be a fun and positive experience for him, as he is fortunate to be in good health and able to dedicate a full year to performing.
Cena also noted that this tour is his way of giving fans advance notice and an opportunity to celebrate with him. Unlike sudden retirements often caused by injuries or storyline decisions, Cena’s tour will allow him to connect with audiences worldwide over the next year. He plans to visit various locations from January to December, inviting fans to join him for a memorable farewell tour.
“It’s going to be fun. And not bittersweet for me, it’s going to be fun. I’m so grateful that I’m in a position where I still have my health and I’m able to carve out a large section of time and perform for a year from January until December.”
“And give everyone also a heads-up. A lot of times in WWE, sometimes injuries force retirement all of a sudden. So one day you’re there and then the next day you’re gone. Or sometimes you just say you’re retiring and it’s part of the bit, like you want to attack somebody and get a shot at the championship.
“This is my way, for an audience that has made me who I am after 22-23 years of investment, to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to give you six months, that’s your warning. And then in January we’re going on tour and then in December I’m hanging them up. So let’s all get together at various spots around the world the next calendar year and get loud and rowdy one more time.’”
We have also reported that WWE is already considering opponents for John Cena, and he even has an interesting idea for a tag team partner. It remains to be seen how Cena’s retirement tour will turn out, as fans can’t wait to enjoy his last year as a pro wrestler.
