Sami Zayn had been the Intercontinental Champion since defeating Gunther for the title at WrestleMania 40 and has been booked well as the champion since then. He lost the title at SummerSlam and has now broken his silence on the matter.

Sami Zayn’s tenure as WWE Intercontinental Champion came to an end at WWE SummerSlam when he lost the title to Bron Breakker. Zayn’s championship run began at WrestleMania XL, where he defeated Gunther, ending Gunther’s historic 666-day reign.

Zayn shared on social media that this recent championship run might have been the most special of his career due to personal reasons, posting a photo with his son to commemorate the moment. His reign lasted 119 days and included six successful title defenses.

”This Intercontinental Championship reign has come to an end. It may have been the most special title run of my career…for personal reasons.”
