Maria Kanellis was once a mainstay of WWE television, but that is all in the past now. She is currently part of the AEW and ROH roster but has been absent for a while. Unfortunately, she had some sad news to share as she announced the passing of her beloved grandmother.

Grandparents are often among the most important people in one’s life, providing warmth and love. Their loss is therefore a profound and heartbreaking experience for anyone in this world.

Maria hasn’t appeared on ROH television for some time, but she frequently updates her fans about her personal life. Today, she shared the news of her grandmother’s passing. Maria’s grandmother, who also shared her name, passed away at the age of 95.

In a heartfelt and detailed post on her Instagram, Maria described her grandmother as a strong, hardworking, and fearless woman from Sparta, Greece. Her grandmother never learned to drive, so when she babysat, they would walk everywhere together. Despite this, she always dressed elegantly in a skirt, blouse, scarf, and clip-on earrings, and she had a unique approach to gardening with just a kitchen knife. She enjoyed playing cards and drinking ouzo. Along with Maria’s grandfather, who passed away in 2020, she built a remarkable life in America, where they were married for over 60 years, owned two restaurants, and raised a large family.

Maria reflected on her grandmother’s enduring strength and the love she had for her family. She recounted how her grandmother called Maria’s husband Mike “the fighter,” but in reality, she was the true fighter in the family. At her grandmother’s funeral, Maria heard many stories of her kindness from her surviving siblings. The last words Maria shared with her grandmother were “It was a good life,” acknowledging the sacrifices made by her grandparents to provide a better life for their family. Maria expressed sadness at her grandmother’s passing but also profound gratitude for the life she had lived and the legacy she left behind.

”My YaiYai passed away on Monday. Maria Kanellis, my synónymos, was 95 years old. YaiYai was an incredibly strong, hardworking, and fearless woman from Sparta, Greece. YaiYai never learned to drive so when she would babysit us, we would walk everywhere. And even still she would be in a skirt, blouse, scarf, clip on earrings, and kitten heals. She used to garden with her bare calloused hands and a kitchen knife in a skirt and loved to play cards while drinking ouzo. She and my Papou came to America to build a life together and they did. An incredible life, YaiYai and Papou were married for over 60 years, they owned 2 restaurants, raised 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and had 8 great-grandchildren. Papou passed away in 2020 but, I’m sure they are together again. Arguing loving about whether or not the door is closed or about the coffee. Declarations of nai. But S’agapò just as much. YaiYai called my husband Mike, the fighter. But, in the end and all through life she was the real fighter in the family. YaiYai defended her family fiercely and I heard many stories of kindness from her surviving siblings at her funeral yesterday. The last thing I said to my YaiYai was “it was a good life” because it was and it is. I cannot imagine the sacrifices that my grandparents must have made leaving behind everything they knew. I am sad she is gone but more than that I am grateful. So grateful for the years. Grateful for this beautiful life. Grateful for the sacrifices because you gave us the good life. Now Rest. You both gave everything to us. And I’m grateful.

S’agapò YaiYai.”

As for Maria Kanellis herself, she is set to undergo a Retroperitoneoscopic Adrenalectomy treatment. This is an incredibly difficult time for Maria Kanellis and her family, and our hearts go out to them. The loss of a loved one is deeply painful, and we offer our heartfelt condolences to Manellis and her family. We pray that her grandmother rests in peace.
