CM Punk returned to in-ring action for the first time in over six months last week at SummerSlam. He went up against his heated rival, Drew McIntyre, with their rivalry building up for months and involved Seth Rollins as the Special Guest Referee.

The match proved to be a marquee showdown for the SummerSlam card, but Punk’s hatred for Rollins and brief altercation cost him the match and gave McIntyre the win and his beloved bracelet that CM Punk acquired back briefly.

The Best in the World came on the August 5 edition of Monday Night RAW to address the fallout. CM Punk was happy despite his loss at SummerSlam but explained that his happiness was due to being back in Baltimore after ten years with fans chanting his name. Punk revealed that he was told to be out for nine months due to his triceps injury, but he came back only in five.

CM Punk then turned his attention to Drew McIntyre, berating him, and made it clear that he wanted another match against him. At that moment, Seth Rollins, looking agitated at Punk’s actions, came down to the ring not to talk but to look for a fight. But Drew McIntyre broke the fight, coming down from the audience and gloating about his SummerSlam victory.

Drew McIntyre applauded Punk’s performance but proclaimed himself as The Best in the World. With Punk and Seth focused on each other, Drew got his attention by mentioning Punk’s wife, AJ Lee and Larry, referring to the bracelet that he still had. This led to CM Punk chasing him to the back while Bronson Reed came down to the ring to lay a beatdown to Seth Rollins to make his own opportunities, delivering multiple Tsumanis before the WWE officials had to stop him.
