SummerSlam delivered a surge of storyline momentum this year, culminating in an explosive follow-up on the August 5 episode of WWE RAW. One of the most shocking developments involved Damian Priest not only losing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but also being betrayed in a dramatic twist. This week’s episode of RAW delved deeper into that storyline as Priest faced a former ally.
The ex-WWE World Heavyweight Champion made his entrance during the third segment of RAW’s commercial-free first hour. Wasting no time, he called out Finn Balor, challenging him to “come out and take this beating like a man.”
In a full babyface turn, Damian Priest embraced the WWE fans as his “new family,” declaring that his family had just grown larger. Finn Balor appeared on the screen, accusing Priest of betraying Judgment Day and claiming he changed when he became champion.
Balor vowed to bide his time before challenging Damian Priest, promising to stab him in the back again. He revealed his allegiance to the new Judgment Day stable, which included Carlito, JD McDonagh, Dominik Mysterio, and Liv Morgan. This revelation infuriated Priest, who stormed backstage in pursuit of his former stablemates.
The intensity escalated as Drew McIntyre and JD McDonagh squared off, kicking off the third hour of WWE RAW. Although Priest initially dominated JD, McDonagh countered with an impressive moonsault for a near fall.
Damian Priest powered up, ignoring McDonagh’s attack, and unleashed a series of kicks followed by a devastating elbow in the corner and a Broken Arrow. Michael Cole questioned how JD was still standing after such punishment. Priest then launched JD over the announce table, showcasing his dominance.
Priest delivered a clothesline that turned JD inside out, and took out Carlito on the apron. However, Finn Balor ambushed Priest, causing a disqualification, while the New Judgment Day stable assaulted the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Although this was a brutal scene, Priest, now a babyface, needed to endure this punishment. In a fiery comeback, he fought off his old stablemates and nearly grabbed Balor.
Damian Priest was on the verge of hitting a Razor’s Edge on Finn Balor when Liv Morgan intervened, allowing Dominik Mysterio to chop block Priest. As chaos ensued, Rhea Ripley entered the ring to confront Liv Morgan. The crowd erupted as Rhea cleared the announce table, but Dominik managed to save Morgan, and they retreated. Rhea Ripley and Priest then cornered JD McDonagh in the ring, culminating in JD receiving a South of Heaven.
The Judgment Day expelled Damian Priest, one of the last original members alongside Edge, marking a complete overhaul of the stable. The future of Judgment Day is now uncertain, and fans eagerly anticipate what lies ahead.
