GUNTHER Denies WWE World Title Win Being Tainted After SummerSlam 2024

GUNTHER’s reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion solidified his status as an all-time great, with a historic 666-day title run before losing it to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40. He didn’t stay without a title for long as he became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam and has now denied claims that the title win was tainted.

At the SummerSlam Premium Live Event, GUNTHER faced Damian Priest for the title in a highly anticipated match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Finn Balor appeared ringside midway through the bout to support his teammate.

The match ended with Priest hitting GUNTHER with a Razor’s Edge and South of Heaven. As Priest went for the pin, Balor interfered by placing GUNTHER’s foot on the rope. Damian then attempted to confront Balor after seeing the replay, but GUNTHER prevented him from doing so. The challenger responded by applying a sleeper hold to Balor, securing his first world title in WWE.

In a backstage interview during the SummerSlam post-show, Gunther reflected on his victory. He felt the win was well-deserved and dismissed any claims that it was tainted by Balor’s interference. Gunther confidently declared that the World Heavyweight Championship and Monday Night Raw now belong to him, challenging anyone who doubts his legitimacy to confront him.

“Nothing’s tainted, no reservations. Nothing to be ashamed of. From this day forth, Monday Night Raw and the legacy of the World Heavyweight Championship belong to me. If anybody out there thinks I don’t deserve this, they know where to find me.”

We will have to wait and see how GUNTHER will be booked as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the coming weeks, as The Ring General is finally the top name on the red brand.
