MJF recently introduced the AEW American Championship, and Templario won tournament to earn a shot at this new title. They battled at the 8/2 Viernes Espectacular show and MJF would triumph when all was said and done.

On the August 2 edition of CMLL’s “Viernes Espectacular,” Maxwell Jacob Friedman made his debut with CMLL and defended his AEW American Championship against the reigning CMLL World Middleweight Champion, Templario. This bout marked not only MJF’s first title defense but also his inaugural match for CMLL.

Accompanied by Rocky Romero, MJF faced Templario, who was supported by KeMalito. The match was intense, and the decisive moment came when MJF executed a Panama Sunrise followed by a Sheer-Drop Brainbuster to secure the victory. After the match, MJF further asserted his dominance by attacking both Templario and KeMalito with his championship belt.

MJF is now set to square off against Kyle Fletcher on the August 7th edition of AEW Dynamite and after that, he will defend his title against Will Ospreay at AEW All In on August 25th, so we’ll have to see how MJF will fare in the upcoming matches.
