Matt Cardona Blames Matt Hardy for Re-Injuring Him at GCW Event

Matt Cardona encountered an unexpected setback when he was released from WWE back in 2021. However, he used this release as motivation to carve out a successful career in the indies, but he suffered a torn pec injury earlier this year and underwent surgery for the same. While he is cleared for in-ring action, Cardona has now blamed Matt Hardy for possibly injuring him at a GCW event.

GCW Now and Forever began on a positive note for Matt Cardona, who announced his return to the ring at GCW Homecoming Night Two. This event will be Cardona’s first match since he sustained a torn pectoral muscle at Reality of Wrestling Pay Up on April 13th.

Cardona became involved in the main event between Matt Hardy and Nick Gage, attempting to persuade Hardy to cancel the match by claiming he was too valuable for GCW. Hardy refused, and Cardona, along with Broski Jimmy, interfered in the match, attacking both Gage and Hardy. Hardy responded by hitting Cardona with a Twist of Fate and then challenging him to a tag team match at GCW Homecoming Night Two.

Cardona later took to Twitter to express his side of the story. He claimed that his interference was meant to assist Hardy but resulted in him being attacked. Cardona suggested that he might have re-injured his surgically repaired pectoral muscle due to Hardy’s Twist of Fate. He mentioned being taken to a local medical facility to assess whether he would be able to participate in the upcoming match and voiced his frustration with Hardy, Gage, and the absent Steph De Lander.

”Tonight at GCW, I announced my long awaited return to the ring. Also, Jimmy Lloyd and I tried to stop Matt Hardy from wrestling Nick Gage. We were trying to make sure Matt wasn’t seriously injured by that criminal. Instead, both Jimmy and I were viciously attacked by Matt Hardy and Nick Gage. Matt hit me with a Twist of Fate and possibly re-tore my surgically repaired pectoral muscle. Matt and Nick then had the audacity to challenge Jimmy and Ito a match at the next GCW Premium Live Event, Homecoming, on August 25. We agreed. However, I have been taken to a local medical facility to see if this match can even happen. I don’t want to let the GCW Universe down. F*** you Matt Hardy. F*** you Nick Gage. Where the f*** was SDL?”

We will have to wait and see whether Matt Cardona will end up getting some measure of revenge on Matt Hardy following the events of GCW Now And Forever, as fans are already engaged in their storyline.
