Buddy Matthews Asks AEW’s Tony Khan to Intervene in Rhea Ripley’s SummerSlam Storyline

WWE SummerSlam 2024 opened with one of the most compelling in-ring bouts, as Liv Morgan defended her WWE Women’s World Championship against Rhea Ripley, with Dominik Mysterio in her corner.

The match began with Morgan avoiding Ripley, but the chase didn’t last long. Morgan capitalized on an opportunity, injuring Ripley’s shoulder by sending her into the turnbuckle. Ripley reset her shoulder against the announce table, continuing the match despite the pain.

The final moments of the bout saw Morgan brought a chair into play, but Ripley kicked it away. As Ripley grabbed the chair to use it, Dominik intervened to prevent a disqualification. Morgan then hit Ripley with an Oblivion for a two-count. With Dominik distracting the referee, Morgan used the chair to secure another Oblivion and won the match.

After the match, Dominik did the unthinkable and kissed Liv Morgan, confirming his turn. The two left together, leaving a heartbroken Ripley in the ring. Witnessing the betrayal, Rhea’s real-life husband, AEW star Buddy Matthews, took to his X to seek Tony Khan’s permission to help out her wife following Dominik’s actions.

“TK can I help Mami real quick? 🫢”

While, of course, Matthews cannot show up in WWE to help Rhea Ripley, this turn sets up Dominik and Morgan as a prominent heel duo, so it seems that Mami would need to seek help within the global juggernaut.
