WWE brought SummerSlam to Cleveland Browns Stadium on August 3. There were a lot of high-profile matches on the card, including Sami Zayn defending his title against Bron Breakker. The two former NXT Champions threw down in a match that fans will not soon forget.
Sami Zayn has been riding a wave of momentum after his WrestleMania 40 win over GUNTHER. That win snapped The Ring General’s 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion. Bron Breakker was more than ready to end Zayn’s fairy tale run as champion at the biggest party of the summer.
The match started with Bron Breakker missing a spear, so he took a shoulder to the ring post. Then they made their way to the floor and moved back inside with Zayn in control of the match. It did not take long until Bron Breakker got his hands on the Underdog from the Underground.
Bron Breakker blocked an exploder suplex in the corner, and then they moved to the top turnbuckle, where he hit a Frankensteiner for a near fall. Breakker told Zayn to quit the match, but he did not. Instead, the match carried on as Zayn hit a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two-count like he always gets with that move. Then Zayn nailed an exploder suplex, but Breakker nailed him with a spear when he was running for the Helluva Kick.
Then Bron Breakker took down his singlet straps and nailed another massive spear for the win. This was a shorter match, but it certainly told a story. Michael Cole said, “Welcome to the Bron Breakker Era” when the second-generation Superstar got the pin. This was a big night for him in Cleveland.
