Val Venis has been vocal about his right-wing views, including controversial anti-trans posts. Recently, a fan attempted to secure the trademark for Venis’ name, which had been abandoned. With that said, a person named Captain Cannabis has accused Venis of stealing his identity.
The trademark issue started when a Twitter user named HaangEmHigh saw that the trademark for “Val Venis” had been abandoned and registered it. They created a website called ‘ValVenis.com’ that supports LGBTQ rights, especially trans rights, and uses transgender pride colors
The Valued Allies of LGBTQ+ Vital Educational & Non-Judgmental Informational Services, also known as VAL VENIS, was created to fight against hatred towards the LGBTQ+ community, with plans to file for the trademark. HaangEmHiigh then announced the successful filing of the “VAL VENIS” trademark. This follows a week of teasers, and the trademark is officially theirs. This led to Val Venis promising to nuke this attempt.
A person named Captain Cannabis took to Twitter and expressed his frustration to Val Venis by calling him by his real name of Sean Morley, accusing him of violating trademarks and intellectual property. He claimed that Morley copied “The Captain Cannabis Show,” which has been his since 2013, despite Captain Cannabis using the name since 1993. He pointed out his history of writing rap songs about marijuana, his multiple appearances in High Times Magazine, and his advocacy for medical marijuana since 1993.
Captain Cannabis criticized Morley for taking a name given to him by Vince Russo, which he alleges was not Morley’s original concept. He accused Morley of hypocrisy and being a “sleazy greaseball” for suggesting that Captain Cannabis was weak for enforcing his trademarks. Captain Cannabis mocked Morley for not having original ideas and for not protecting his own work legally. He expressed satisfaction in calling Morley out and wished that Morley would lose the name permanently, criticizing him for not being original and failing to trademark his own ideas.
”Oh man it’s so funny when Sean Morley did to me when he violated my trademarks and intellectual property and lied about it. He totally copied my show ‘The Captain Cannabis Show,’ the original since 2013. I have been using the name since 1993, I wrote a rap song about weed, I’ve had multiple appearances in High Times Magazine and been a legalization advocate for medical marijuana since 1993. So, the fact that someone trolled him, which wasn’t his original concept, Vince Russo gave him the name because he thought he was a sleazy greeseball and he is, because he was telling me that he was going to use the name and I’m a bad person if I enforce my trademarks, and I’m weak if I need to get a lawyer and that’s what he’s doing. So hey Sean Morley, how does it feel to have your life’s work taken from you.
Oh wait it’s not even your copyright or trademark, it’s someone else’s. That’s why it’s so funny, it’s the hypocrisy and hate coming out of that dude’s mouth for so long, so I’m glad I had the chance to say what a scum you are, Mr. Morley. You don’t have an original thought in your head, and you’re a loser. So instead of selling sex, violence and controversy, why not quit the schtick, why not be a good person? Come up with your own ideas and not steal from people. I hope you lose the name forever because you don’t deserve it and you’re too stupid to trademark it like I did.”
It remains to be seen what actions Val Venis will take next. He is currently active on Twitter, where he regularly posts politically charged content and engages with various topics. It is uncertain whether he will respond to Captain Cannabis’s accusations in the end.
