Cody Rhodes dethroned Roman Reigns as the Undisputed WWE Champion and he has been proudly carrying the prestige of the title as the face of the company. With that said, Rhodes has made it clear he is still trying to bring back the legendary Winged Eagle Title.

Since his switch from Raw to SmackDown, Rhodes has established himself as the brand’s top star, especially as Reigns takes a break. Rhodes’ popularity is simply undeniable, especially when it comes to merchandise sales.

Before winning the Undisputed Title, Cody Rhodes expressed a strong desire to reintroduce the classic ‘Winged Eagle’ WWE Championship. Although he has yet to see that specific belt make a return, he remains committed to exploring ways to bring it back in some form.

While speaking to GQ Sport, Cody Rhodes stated that he appreciates the current title’s individual side plates but has a particular fondness for the Winged Eagle, which was worn by legends like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Ric Flair, and Bret Hart. Despite this, Rhodes acknowledges the significance of the current Gold championship, especially since it was the title Roman Reigns held when Rhodes defeated him, which connects him more deeply to the current design and aesthetic of the WWE Championship.

“One of the things I like about the title a lot is… it’s not a name plate, now it’s all about your individual side plates. I also love that this title is specifically this generation’s title [the current Gold championship]. I am fond of the Winged Eagle, which is the title from the 1990s. Hulk Hogan wore it, Ultimate Warrior wore it, Ric Flair wore it, Bret Hart wore it. I am actively trying to find a way to get that into the WWE world but this is also the title [the gold belt] that was around Roman Reigns’ waist the night I beat him and there is a part of that that makes me more linked to this look and this aesthetic for a WWE Championship than ever.”

Cody Rhodes had previously brought back the classic version of the Intercontinental Championship during his previous run in WWE. We’ll have to see whether Rhodes will bring back the Winged Eagle title somewhere down the line, as fans would love to see that happen.
