MJF embraced his heel persona earlier this year and has since been unstoppable, culminating in his recent win of the AEW American Championship. He was part of a major segment on Dynamite this week and it appears AEW made a last-minute change to his plans.

On the July 17th episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF defeated Will Ospreay to claim the AEW International Championship. The following week, MJF discarded the title and introduced the AEW American Championship. Ospreay has expressed his determination to restore the AEW International Championship.

On the July 31st episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF promoted America and positioned himself as an American hero. Meanwhile, Ospreay faced some boos as he reiterated his commitment to bringing back the AEW International Championship.

Will Ospreay defeated Lance Archer but was attacked by MJF afterwards. Kyle Fletcher then intervened, delivering a highly praised promo about achieving his dream house, car, and girl in the U.S. before challenging MJF to a match. This match is scheduled for next week’s Dynamite.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Fletcher was a late addition to the segment. AEW had initially approached a talent not signed to the company—who had never worked for AEW—on Tuesday night, asking them to participate in a two-week program, angle, and match.

However, the wrestler declined the offer due to scheduling conflicts. The identity of the wrestler AEW attempted to bring in remains unknown, but they were described as a “very big physically impressive wrestler.”

Regardless, we will have to wait and see whether Will Ospreay will be able to triumph over MJF at AEW All In and reclaim the title that he lost, as fans feel Ospreay will genuinely be able to beat the Salt of the Earth this time around.
