WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has accomplished a lot during his time in WWE, having a remarkable rookie year and going on to become a legend in the business, but his career isn’t without controversy. After all, his stalker storyline with Sharmell was seen in bad taste by many and now Sharmell has revealed her true feelings about the storyline.

Angle had a controversial rivalry with Booker T in 2005 on SmackDown that would likely not be featured in any best-of compilations. During this storyline, Angle made several inappropriate comments about Booker T’s wife, Sharmell, including sexually explicit remarks and stalking her over multiple weeks. Angle would make it clear that he also regretted the storyline and wished he could undo it.

While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Sharmell addressed the controversial segments. She mentioned that while she wasn’t personally offended by the storyline at the time, she recognized that such content would not be acceptable in today’s climate.

Sharmell reflected that although the angle was meant as entertainment and she thought it was actually brilliant, modern sensibilities would likely reject such material. She emphasized that her reaction was shaped by her understanding that it was scripted acting, though she acknowledged the existence of real, serious situations that should not be condoned.

“Kurt was stalking me. Because I was so new at that time, I don’t even know, they were like, Okay here’s what you’re doing. Okay. I don’t know who came up with any of that, but I thought it was brilliant. Everybody’s real touchy right now in this day and age. But it didn’t bother me. I thought it was great.

It was interesting, but I don’t know if you could get away with that in this day and age. Everybody’s like, no, we can’t do that. It wouldn’t fly [today]. But because I knew it was acting, you know what I mean? Now, there are some serious situations out there that are like that and I don’t condone that at all, but when it was acting it was okay for me, that’s just me.”

Even Booker T previously made it clear he had no issues with Kurt Angle and Sharmell’s storyline. Regardless, such storylines will never be made in today’s climate and Kurt Angle would also agree that’s for the best.
