AEW has been building relationships with several promotions over the past couple of years, including NJPW, STARDOM and CMLL. In light of their current partnership, CMLL’s reaction has now been revealed.
AEW’s flourishing partnership with NJPW, STARDOM and CMLL was on full display during the Forbidden Door pay-per-view back in June. It became evident the partnerships with the companies would continue far beyond the event as well.
AEW’s partnership with CMLL has significantly boosted business for the Mexican promotion, leaving them very pleased with the collaboration. In October 2023, Tony Khan discussed the partnership as well.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reports that CMLL is experiencing one of its best periods in years, thanks to their relationship with AEW. He noted that CMLL is benefiting more from the partnership compared to AEW. While CMLL wrestlers don’t significantly impact AEW’s business, the presence of AEW wrestlers at CMLL events has greatly enhanced their business.
“CMLL is thrilled, they are drawing like they haven’t drawn in years and years. This is one of the biggest runs of business that CMLL has ever had. CMLL are getting more out of this relationship than AEW because it’s not like the CMLL guys go to AEW and boost their business, but the AEW guys coming to CMLL… Boy, do they boost their business.”
Chris Jericho is set to square off against Mistico at an upcoming CMLL event. MJF is also set to defend his AEW American Championship on the August 2nd CMLL Viernes Espectacular, so it is quite clear that AEW and CMLL’s relationship will continue for a long time.
