You never know what can happen in the pro wrestling business. AEW has attracted many former WWE Superstars, but they might be close to bringing Vince McMahon’s own son, Shane McMahon, on board.
AEW CEO Tony Khan recently had a private meeting with Shane McMahon, sparking speculation about potential collaborations. The meeting took place on Monday, July 29, 2024, in an office at a private Arlington airport.
During that private meeting, Khan and McMahon discussed “possibilities moving forward.” This appears to be their first meeting, as Khan had been open to speaking with McMahon, but had not previously had the opportunity.
Wrestle Votes has now reported an internal reaction to Shane McMahon taking this meeting. A WWE employee who has ties with Shane McMahon said that they aren’t surprised by this meeting because Shane McMahon is a very smart man.
“Asked a longtime WWE employee friendly with Shane for thoughts on the Tony Khan picture. The response: ‘Shane’s as smart as they come; taking a preliminary meeting doesn’t surprise anyone here.’”
We will have to see if Tony Khan and Shane McMahon ever come to any sort of deal. It might be a big win for AEW if they can use that intrigue to increase viewership. Only time will tell if Shane-O Mac will make his AEW debut soon enough.
At 54 years old, Shane McMahon might not want to wrestle again. He was injured during his last outing in a ring, which required quad surgery, and that might have wrapped up his in-ring career with that WrestleMania moment. Either way, AEW may be able to use Shane McMahon’s money, influence, and charisma in some facet down the line.
