TNA Wrestling’s Slammiversary event was quite a night of pro wrestling. Fans witnessed a lot of action, culminating with Moose losing the TNA World Title in an elimination match, and Nic Nemeth walking out as the champion. However, this wasn’t always the plan.
Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that the company had originally intended for someone else to win the title at their big pay-per-view event. The company had a different man in mind to walk out with the title at first.
Some fans expected Joe Hendry to emerge as the world champion at Slammiversary due to the buzz he’s received, but that wasn’t the plan either. He’s been making successful appearances in NXT, including his amazing concert segment during the July 30 episode.
It was further reported that, as of May, the original plan was for Josh Alexander to become the world champion upon his heel turn. Although the reasons for the change in plans are unclear, it was hinted to the outlet that the decision was made because the company felt Josh Alexander and Joe Hendry could continue their feud without the title.
Nic Nemeth is working hard to re-establish himself as a big name in pro wrestling following his WWE release. He’s making his own moves, and that effort has apparently paid off. We will have to see what the former Show Off does from this point on to elevate his title run.
