Seth Rollins started his WWE career alongside Roman Reigns and Jon Moxley when they debuted on the main roster in 2012 as The Shield. The trio went on to become one of the most legendary teams in wrestling history. Now, Rollins has stated that he wouldn’t change a thing about their breakup.
The Shield would go on to become one of the most dominant and popular stables in the history of the WWE and truly elevate the statuses of all three Superstars involved. Naturally, their influence in the industry is not forgotten.
The Shield would break up back in 2014 after Seth Rollins sided with The Authority and betrayed Roman Reigns and Jon Moxley. In the decade since then, that heel turn changed all of their careers in big ways.
While speaking to ESPN, Seth Rollins was asked if he ever sat down and thought about the paths that were paved made by the steel chair shot. Seth Rollins admits he is still frequently asked about his decision to leave The Shield, emphasizing that this event remains significant for fans of him, John Moxley, and Roman Reigns. Reflecting on whether he would change anything about that decision, Rollins firmly stated that he would not.
Rollins believes that the wrestling business is healthier than ever, attributing this positive change to the pivotal moment of his departure. He views that decision as the catalyst that set everyone on their distinct paths and achieved their initial goal of transforming and improving the industry. According to Rollins, the impact of that moment still resonates throughout the history of wrestling.
“I’ve been asked about it a lot, and I think that’s the one thing that if you’re a fan of Seth Rollins, The Shield, or Jon Moxley and Roman Reigns, it kind of sits with you over the course of the last ten years. I get asked about it all the time, and I’ve thought about it—would I go back, would I change it, would I do something different? My answer is unequivocally no. I wouldn’t change a thing because where we’re at now, the business as a whole is healthier than it’s ever been. That moment in time is what shifted everything; it put us all on our separate paths. Our goal from the beginning was to run the show, to run the business, to change it, to make it better. Here we are a decade later, and I dare say it was accomplished with the swing of that steel chair. It still resonates throughout history.”
Seth Rollins also noted that WWE wanted to break up The Shield sooner. The Shield would reunite on a couple of occasions after their initial breakup, but with Jon Moxley leaving the company in 2019, it is unlikely fans will get to see The Shield reunite anytime soon.
