Sammy Guevara was serving suspension due to his role in a match against Jeff Hardy on February 14th but it was eventually lifted. He made his return during the latest ROH taping and it appears Guevara was against his original AEW return plans.

Sammy Guevara recently made his return to All Elite Wrestling with an unexpected appearance at the July 28 Ring of Honor TV tapings, where he saved Dustin Rhodes from a beatdown by the Dark Order.

It was then reported that Sammy Guevara did not want to turn heel and that his appearance on ROH had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Mercedes Mone was on AEW Dynamite.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez provided further insight into Guevara’s situation. Alvarez clarified that Guevara was open to turning heel but was dissatisfied with the specific storyline ideas presented to him, which potentially involved joining Chris Jericho’s Learning Tree.

Guevara’s reluctance to participate in those ideas led to his current role as a babyface in Ring of Honor. Alvarez noted that it’s common for wrestlers to reject certain ideas, and Guevara’s case is not unusual in AEW.

“Yesterday I said he did not want to turn heel and that is not entirely correct. What happened was the idea they had for him on the main roster involved him being heel but he would have been fine being heel. He just didn’t want to do the idea they had for him, which presumably would have been Jericho and the Learning Tree…They probably did want him in the Learning Tree, he didn’t want to be in the Learning Tree.

“Whatever the deal was he was willing to go heel but the ideas they had for him on the main roster, he was not super excited to do those ideas which is why he is now in Ring of Honor and a babyface. This happens all the time. This is not something specific to Sammy. He didn’t like an idea, every day there are things where people aren’t cool with a specific idea and they don’t end up doing it. So this is par for the course for AEW.”

We will have to wait and see how Sammy Guevara will be booked on ROH television in the coming weeks, as it is clear he is more favorable with his direction on ROH for the time being.
