Elias was a notable example of WWE struggling to find a suitable direction for a specific talent. He was released from WWE last year, and he has now detailed his frustrations with WWE before his release.

Ringside News exclusively reported that there was a widespread belief within WWE that Elias’ Ezekiel storyline had a detrimental effect on his career. Regrettably, he was unable to bounce back from it, leading to his eventual release from the company.

Following his release from WWE, Elias is now known as Elijah and has been tearing it up in the independent circuit. While speaking in an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Elias talked about his frustration during his time with WWE. He revealed that the constant setbacks and being stuck in backstage segments nearly made him lose his passion for wrestling.

Elias expressed his disappointment at not being fully involved in WWE matches, which led him to question his love for the sport. He shared that he didn’t want to just collect a paycheck and was eager to prove himself alongside the top wrestlers. The lack of opportunities left him disheartened and uncertain about his future in wrestling.

“The fact that I just kinda was relegated to like short backstage – it was so frustrating that I was like, ‘You know what? Maybe I’m done with wrestling. Maybe I’m just you know, I’m just over it. It beats that fun thing you have as a kid when you want to wrestle and you want to be in WWE… Someone like me, I didn’t like just to sit by and just collect the paycheck. I wanted to be in the mix. I wanted to show you that I could be right in there with any of those guys. To not have that happen was really just disheartening, you know what I mean? So I didn’t really know what I do after.”

Elias admitted that he had doubts about continuing his wrestling career because he was disappointed with how his final months in WWE went. He remembered trying to make things work, willing to play any character or try anything. However, he found his passion for wrestling again when he faced Mike Bailey at Wrestling Revolver Whatashow.

“Then I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s there, that fun of wrestling! It’s there.’ I just kind of want to do that now. It’s enjoyable to travel and wrestle, and be me, and meet people.”

Elias has also expressed his interest in making his way to AEW. Therefore, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for the former WWE Superstar, as anything is truly possible for him right now.
