AEW had footage of CM Punk and Jack Perry’s All In scuffle, and they held onto it for as long as they could. Then Tony Khan released that security camera footage in a move that he credited to the Young Bucks in storyline. Still, CM Punk didn’t seem bothered by this move of apparent desperation.
On the April 10th episode of AEW Dynamite, The Young Bucks presented backstage footage from AEW All In that showed the altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry. The Bucks used the footage to claim it was the reason why they lost to FTR at AEW All In.
The incident between Punk and Perry led to Punk being fired from AEW, with Tony Khan saying that Punk put innocent people in danger and that he feared for his life. Of course, CM Punk ended up back in WWE far before Perry made his AEW return from suspension.
Speaking to Jimmy Traina on the SI Media podcast, Punk was asked what he thought when he heard the footage would air. He
“It’s kind of like… I have to wrestle Drew McIntyre, right? It’s this garbage person that I don’t want in my life. This is the fight game. This is the sh*t-talk business. It’s just like fighting in the UFC. You see these guys ripping at each other in ugly press conferences and getting personal. I don’t necessarily enjoy that energy, but the payoff is, I get to go in a ring and get to blacken eyes and chip teeth and make Drew sob and do whatever else in my head that I hope to do to him.”
“It felt really ugly, but then I was like, showing that footage isn’t going to help them or hurt me, so whatever. Being a top draw in two different companies is pretty wild. Thanks, guys.”
We will have to see what AEW does next to draw attention to themselves. The footage of Perry and Punk’s altercation at Wembley Stadium didn’t have the response that AEW had hoped for, but it still lives on forever in pro wrestling history.
