WWE is committed to providing fans with as much content as possible. While most shows are live, there are occasionally tapings, as happened recently. The reason for WWE taping the July 26th SmackDown out of order has now been revealed.

Due to WWE’s house show tour in Japan from July 25 to July 27, the July 26 edition of Friday Night SmackDown was taped a week earlier in Omaha, Nebraska. However, the show aired out of the order it was taped. The SmackDown main event featuring Tiffany Stratton and Nia Jax against Bayley and Michin was filmed before the tag team gauntlet match.

While speaking during a Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp explained that the tag team turmoil match was originally listed as the final segment of SmackDown but was actually taped earlier. WWE decided to film the segments out of order to expedite the process and get people out earlier, as the tape format allowed for flexibility in the sequence of events.

“Michin and Bayley vs. Nia Jax and Tiffany was listed as the last segment for SmackDown and ended up airing that way. But it was actually filmed before the tag team turmoil match. When I asked people why that was they said, ‘Probably to get people out of there a little bit earlier.’ And it’s taped and didn’t matter as much to necessarily organise it in that matter.”

The Bloodline, consisting of Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga, won the gauntlet match and earned the right to challenge DIY for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Their title match is set for the August 2 edition of SmackDown in Cleveland, Ohio while Nia Jax will challenge Bayley for the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam on August 3rd, so we’ll have to see how each of them will prevail in their respective matches.
