Goldberg is undoubtedly a big name in the pro wrestling business, especially after making a name for himself during WCW and eventually WWE. With that said, he admitted that he hit a torn rotator cuff injury throughout his second run in WWE.

The former WWE Universal Champion last competed in 2022, facing off against Roman Reigns at the WWE Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event, where he lost the match and hasn’t been seen since then and is now officially a free agent.

The WWE Hall of Famer made his way back to WWE in 2016 and had a shocking match with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series that year, where he ended up squashing Brock Lesnar in 86 seconds to pick up the victory.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Goldberg revealed that he tore his rotator cuff during his Survivor Series return match against Brock Lesnar in 2016 but chose not to reveal the injury. He continued to wrestle with the injury throughout his second run with WWE.

Goldberg explained that he began using his left shoulder for Spear moves due to the injury, which he kept private. Goldberg worked around the pain, but it affected his ability to perform certain moves, such as the Jackhammer. He endured severe pain, including an inability to lift his arm for five or six years. Goldberg kept the injury to himself to avoid complications, fearing that if he sought surgery, Vince McMahon might need him for a match right after his recovery.

“If you look back and you’re just strategic in what you’re looking at, there was a time in my run where I started Spearing guys with my left shoulder. Why do you think that happened? Because I tore my rotator cuff the first night I went back with Brock, and I didn’t tell anybody, and I worked around it the whole time. Certain situations I could work around, and certain times I couldn’t (Jackhammer on the Fiend).

“In pain, that’s an understatement. I couldn’t lift my arm for five or six years, but yet again it’s one of those things where I chose to keep it to myself because if I’d have said anything, god forbid I go to get surgery and Vince needs me.

“Or if I go get surgery without telling anybody, my luck is, two weeks after I get done, he’s gonna call and want me to go wrestle, so I just stuck it out.”

Goldberg also admitted he has no idea who his retirement opponent should be. Regardless, Goldberg is in much better health now, so we’ll have to see if he does get a retirement match eventually, as fans are still curious to see what he can accomplish.
