WWE Universe has witnessed some of the most compelling dream matches in the history of the global juggernaut. A major showdown in the same conversation took place at the WWE Elimination Chamber PLE in 2022.

The match, billed ‘Spear vs Spear’, saw Roman Reigns defend his WWE Universal Championship against WCW Icon Goldberg. The showdown took place after Reigns pulled out of their first scheduled match in 2020 with the onset of the pandemic.

During his recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former WCW Champion revealed that he had recovered from COVID just weeks before battling Reigns in Saudi Arabia and believed that the match did not live up to his expectations, berating the dream match.

“No it sucks, I had fucking COVID three weeks before I was asked to do it. It was horrible. No, it was a favor. “It was my job, I’m not gonna say no, I’ve never said no really. I was asked to wrestle twice a year, and they were caught between a rock and a hard place and I was their answer.”

Furthermore, Goldberg also felt that he did a favour to Roman Reigns by having the highly publicized bout with him, elevating his position as the company’s top flagship star further amidst a dominant reign that lasted 1,316 days until Reigns lost the title to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

“I feel like I did him a favor, and that’s why I thought that the favor would be reciprocated, but it is what it is.”

The match saw Reigns defeat Goldberg via technical submission and retain his title. Moreover, amidst his status as a free agent, fans will have to wait and see what ultimately happens with Goldberg, as many are curious if he will ever have a retirement match and get a proper storybook ending in the wrestling business.

Do you agree with Goldberg’s statement regarding doing Roman Reigns a favor by having a match with him in 2022? Did the match live up to the hype and expectations? Sound off in the comments!
