AEW is famous for its high-intensity and brutal matches, including the recent Blood & Guts bout on Dynamite. During the match, Jack Perry received an unprotected chair shot. Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas spoke out against this spot, and now he’s facing backlash for his remarks.
On the July 24th episode of Dynamite, AEW held its fourth Blood & Guts match at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The match featured Team AEW—Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, and The Acclaimed—against The Elite, which included The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, and Hangman Page.
The match was very violent with many dangerous moments. Max Caster had thumbtacks put in his mouth before getting superkicked by The Young Bucks. In a particularly harsh spot, Jack Perry, who was handcuffed to the cage, took an unprotected chair shot to the head from Mark Briscoe using Perry’s own chair.
Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas recently said that it’s impossible to make a steel chair safe for a headshot and posted a video to explain why, but some fans took it as a shot to AEW.
“Here we are with a folding steel chair. Guess what? It’s not gimmicked, you know why? Because you can’t gimmick these things. So get it out of your head. It isn’t possible. Maybe if it’s made of wood, maybe you can shave it down a little bit, but guess what? Steel chairs, that’s what you get.”
AEW Vice President of Creative and Talent QT Marshall would call out Jimmy Korderas for having no idea about how AEW protects their talent regarding the controversial spot, but the dispute was settled without issue.
However, Jimmy Korderas would end up receiving a lot of backlash for his remarks about the unprotected chair shot. In fact, Korederas noted that his family was targeted by many people who were irritated by his comments and he made it clear this bothered him.
I’m done with this ridiculous bulls***. You can say what you want about me, I could give a f***! If you talk about my family, you are the lowest piece of s*** on the planet. Period!
Even QT Marshall condemned what fans had to say to Jimmy Korderas after all the backlash he received over the controversial Blood & Guts chair shot.
”I may disagree with some of the stuff Jimmy says, but that doesn’t mean I condone the way some of our fans speak on this app.”
It was also confirmed that Jack Perry was perfectly fine after the chair shot. Regardless, many fans do hope that such dangerous spots are eventually banned from AEW in general, no matter what precautions are taken.
