CM Punk’s return to WWE during the 2023 Survivor Series event was a significant moment for fans in Chicago. He went on to perform in the Royal Rumble match but was injured during the event. After a long recovery period following his triceps surgery, Punk is now cleared to compete and is gearing up for his match against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam.

At WWE SummerSlam, CM Punk will compete in his first match since suffering a torn triceps at the Royal Rumble. He admitted there is anxiety surrounding the match, but he is also excited.

On ESPN’s First Take, Punk expressed his anticipation for the match. His journey back to WWE was lengthy, including stops in the UFC and AEW, but his rehab period allowed him to refocus and seize this opportunity.

“I’m extremely pumped. It’s been a long road to get back to WWE. We obviously have had our problems, I’ll say. To come back and get injured in January was pretty crushing. It gave me a lot to do in rehab. Being able to refocus and really seize the opportunity that I’ve been given.”

When asked why he’s been targeting Drew McIntyre, who injured him at the Royal Rumble, Punk replied, “I’m a target for Drew. That’s really all there is to it. Drew keeps poking the bear. Sometimes you have to let them know who the man is.”

Drew McIntyre has made various comments about CM Punk during their feud, including the claim that Punk fails at being a leader. To this, Punk simply responded that he is focused on doing his job, even if he is a polarizing figure in the business.

“I never claimed to be one. I’m just trying to do my job. I’m just trying to wrestle. I’m very polarizing for some odd reason.”

As we approach SummerSlam, we will keep a close eye on CM Punk’s actions. Seth Rollins added the final touch to this storyline with his promo on the July 29 episode of WWE RAW, where he declared that he would be the special referee with only one rule: he is the boss in the match.

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre might steal the show at SummerSlam. The card is full of high-profile matches, but fans in Cleveland will be paying close attention to this confrontation, which has been building for over half a year.
