Locking down a trademark is very important in the pro wrestling business. Gimmick infringement is a real thing, and it can also cost a wrestler their livelihood if they don’t protect it. Even though Bryan Danielson has stayed away from pointing his fingers to the sky and getting fans to chant “YES” since jumping to AEW, he is taking steps to secure that for himself now.

Bryan Danielson applied to trademark the term “YES! YES! YES!” on July 29th with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The trademark description covers a range of entertainment services, including wrestling contests, podcast production, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer, television show production, video and film production, wrestling club services, music production, information on television, film, audio, and radio production, and television, video, and movie filming services.

Danielson first popularized the “YES! YES! YES!” chant during his 2013 babyface run in WWE, initially using the “NO! NO! NO!” chant while making his entrance. Daniel Bryan and Kane had a lot of fun with the yes and no back-and-forth at times.

That chant gained significant popularity and became a defining feature of his character. At WrestleMania 30, he won the World Heavyweight and WWE Titles in the main event after defeating Triple H to earn a spot in the triple threat bout with Randy Orton and Batista. Sadly, Danielson’s title run was short-lived due to injury.

Danielson is set to challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Heavyweight Title this Saturday at All In on Sunday, August 25 in Wembley Stadium. We will have to see how that match gets booked, but odds are we will hear “YES” chants in London.

What’s your take on Bryan Danielson finally working to lock down his chant? Do you think people still associate it just with him? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
