AEW is known for its intense and violent matches, such as the Blood & Guts bout on Dynamite this week. During the match, Jack Perry took an unprotected chair shot. An ex-WWE referee has been criticized for incorrectly commenting on this spot.

On the July 24th edition of Dynamite, AEW held its fourth Blood & Guts match at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The match featured Team AEW, which included Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, and The Acclaimed, facing off against The Elite, comprising The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, and Hangman Page.

The bout was extremely violent and filled with dangerous moments. Max Caster had thumbtacks placed in his mouth before being superkicked by The Young Bucks. In a particularly harsh spot, Jack Perry, who was handcuffed to the cage, took an unprotected chair shot to the head from Mark Briscoe using Perry’s own ‘scapegoat’ chair.

If you were not aware, former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas recently stated that it’s impossible to gimmick a steel chair to make it safe for a shot to the head and used a video to prove his point.

“Here we are with a folding steel chair. Guess what? It’s not gimmicked, you know why? Because you can’t gimmick these things. So get it out of your head. It isn’t possible. Maybe if it’s made of wood, maybe you can shave it down a little bit, but guess what? Steel chairs, that’s what you get.”

In response, AEW Vice President of Creative and Talent QT Marshall took to Twitter and criticized Korderas, saying he didn’t understand the process and invited him to visit AEW to see how they protect talent, or to remain misinformed. Marshall emphasized his respect for industry veterans, even if they publicly criticize AEW.

“You have zero clue what you’re speaking of. If you would like, you can come to AEW and we can show you what we do to protect the talent. Or you can continue to be ignorant. Take your pick.

I have all the respect in the world for the veterans of the industry who have paved the way. Even if they s*** on us publicly.”

When Korderas asked for a DM, Marshall clarified that he wasn’t angry with Korderas or anyone for their opinions on chair shots. He explained that his point was that Korderas didn’t grasp how AEW gimmicks chairs. Marshall confirmed he sent a DM to Korderas, who responded, and he considered the matter settled.

“For the record, I’m not mad at @jimmykorderas… I’m not mad at anyone for having an opinion on chair shots. My argument was that he didn’t understand how we gimmick a chair. I’ve sent him the dm. He responded. End of it. He’s earned the right to get the dm.”

It was also confirmed that Jack Perry was perfectly fine after the chair shot. Regardless, AEW might just avoid such spots in the future and that is for the best as fans don’t want more controversy.

What do you think of what QT Marshall had to say about Jimmy Korderas’ claim? Do you feel AEW should ban such chair shots anyway? Sound off in the comments!
