WWE is gearing up for SummerSlam on August 3, and fans are eagerly anticipating the match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. This contest has been in the making for over six months, but Punk was sidelined due to a triceps injury. Now fully medically cleared, Punk is ready for the showdown. Seth Rollins will be the special guest referee for the match, and he was on the show this week to lay down the rules.
The July 29 episode of WWE RAW began with Seth Rollins, who wasted no time in calling out CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. The crowd in St. Paul, Minnesota, gave them a warm reception.
It was emphasized that Punk and McIntyre are prohibited from any physical contact until SummerSlam, or their match will be canceled. CM Punk exited the ring to avoid any potential confrontation with McIntyre. Seth Rollins criticized Punk, stating that the Second City Saint does not get to make the rules. Rollins demanded that Punk return to the ring.
Drew McIntyre tried to ally with Seth by arguing that Punk is the true adversary. Rollins acknowledged that Punk can be hated, but reminded Drew that he dislikes him as well. Rollins then detailed the rules for their upcoming match at SummerSlam, which he referred to as a “violent masterpiece.”
Seth Rollins stated that there is only one rule: both competitors must listen to him. He declared himself the boss and the law, saying he will control the count and call for submissions as he sees fit. Rollins mentioned he could count to 10, 20, or even a million in a count-out situation, and disqualifications will be at his discretion. Rollins clearly holds all the power in this match.
It remains to be seen how Seth Rollins will influence the match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. Punk has expressed that he hopes Rollins is a better referee than a dresser, and he certainly does not want Rollins’ help during the match. This setup adds an interesting dynamic leading up to SummerSlam.
