Tony Khan announced on July 20 that Dalton Castle would be sidelined for the remainder of 2024.
Initially, it was believed that this absence was due to a concussion sustained during his match against Roderick Strong on the July 10 episode of AEW Collision. However, Bryan Alvarez later clarified that the injury keeping Castle out is not a concussion. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Castle is dealing with a torn biceps.
“Torn biceps, that was the deal with the surgery and everything,” Meltzer reported.
The match with Strong was unexpectedly halted when Castle was unable to kick out during a pin attempt, which was not the planned finish. Meltzer provided further insight into the incident on the July 15 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
“What happened was, it was a flying knee that knocked out Dalton Castle,” Meltzer explained. “He got knocked out. The referee counts one, two, held up the count because it wasn’t supposed to be the pin. Then counted three because Dalton Castle never moved, and they didn’t show Dalton Castle; he was on the ground for several minutes. So, they didn’t show any of that.”
Meltzer further noted that the match’s conclusion was edited due to the unexpected nature of Castle’s condition, describing it as a “complete mess” in the building. The incident highlighted the challenges of live performances and the importance of safety measures.
Dalton Castle’s absence will be felt in the wrestling community, and fans are hopeful for his swift and full recovery. The injury update marks a challenging period for Castle, but the support from the wrestling world continues as he focuses on recovery and rehabilitation.
