During the company’s slew of releases back in September last year, Mace and Mansoor were handed their release. Now known as Mason Madden, he recalled the time there was a fan posing as a KKK member as part of the ThunderDome era in WWE.

During WWE’s ThunderDome era, there were a few problematic moments with the virtual screens, including an incident recalled by Mason Madden involving the appearance of KKK imagery. In August 2020, during a Raw episode featuring a match between Seth Rollins and Murphy versus Dominik and Rey Mysterio, a fan appeared on the virtual screens wearing KKK garb. The image was promptly removed, and WWE issued a statement banning such fans from future events.

While speaking with Fightful, Mason Madden talked about the incident. Madden recounted an incident when RETRIBUTION was set to make a run-in during that match, and one of the virtual screens had been hacked to show footage of a Ku Klux Klan rally. Madden recalled feeling unsettled, wondering if this was part of the planned run-in or if he was being set up.

“My favorite Retribution story is, so in the Thunderdome we used to do a lot of movie magic,” he began. “Retribution hid in all sorts of places. So one of the places we hid was in the crowd amongst the TV screens. In one of the times we were going to do a run-in, someone had hacked one of the TV screens and there was a video of a Ku Klux Klan rally that was on the TV.

It was right in front of me and I was like spooked ‘cause I was like, ‘Are they coming? Are they here? Is that the run-in? Am I being set up right now?’ Not really a Retribution story, more of a Ku Klux Klan story.”

That wasn’t all as a fan even displayed Chris Benoit’s image during a show as well during the Thunderdome era. Regardless, all of this is in the past and that’s all that matters.
