At the 2024 WWE Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada, John Cena announced his upcoming retirement from professional wrestling. The announcement has created significant excitement about his final matches and opponents on his farewell tour. CM Punk has since expressed his interest in teaming up with John Cena, suggesting that such a collaboration would be interesting.
John Cena revealed that he plans to be present when RAW transitions to Netflix. He also announced that the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 2025 will mark his final wrestling appearances.
Unlike other wrestlers who have had retirement matches, John Cena will have an entire tour featuring 100 dates in 2025 and he will end his in-ring career for good in December 2025.
At WWE’s San Diego Comic-Con 2024 panel, CM Punk talked about John Cena’s retirement and suggested the possibility of teaming up with him before Cena retires. Punk noted that while many fans are eager to see a match between them, he believes a tag team partnership could be an intriguing idea. He also mentioned that if he were to team up with someone to take on opponents, it would likely be Larry, emphasizing the potential excitement of teaming with Cena.
”If I had to tag up with somebody to beat some people up, it would probably Larry. Everybody’s asking me because (John) Cena has announced his retirement that, you know, obviously they wanna see us fight each other. I think there’s something to me and him tagging. I think that can be pretty interesting.”
We have also reported that WWE is already considering opponents for John Cena and he even sent out a cryptic post about passing the torch. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see if CM Punk and John Cena will team up during the latter’s retirement tour next year.
