MJF triumphantly returned to AEW at Double or Nothing 2024, initially as a babyface, but he soon reverted to his trademark Burberry scarf look and narcissist persona.

Following his intense, nearly hour-long match against Will Ospreay on the July 17 episode of AEW Dynamite, The Salt of the Earth secured victory in the final seconds and officially began his reign as the AEW International Champion.

On the July 24 episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF kicked off his championship celebration with a group of cheerleaders. He then criticized the International Championship, declaring that hard work is for the “poor”, and discarded the title, revealing a new American Championship design.

Witnessing MJF’s actions, the former champion, Will Ospreay, took to his X and revealed that he had given the championship title back to Tony Khan after retrieving it from the trash can. Will also issued an apology to every AEW International champion before him who put in the hard work to make the title meaningful. In the end, he vowed to win the title back at Wembley Stadium.

“Max clearly is a fan of my work. I handed the International championship back to @TonyKhan the moment I walked through to gorilla. I can only apologise to every former International champion that worked hard to make the title meaningful. I will get it back at @wembleystadium.”

Will Ospreay did interrupt MJF’s celebration, announcing that he will challenge MJF for the American Championship at AEW All In, contradicting his previous statement in the tweet of winning the title at Wembley. So it will be interesting to see MJF and Ospreay collide once again after their spectacular showdown at the AEW Dynamite’s 250th episode.
