Vince McMahon’s WWE exit was a controversial one, because he was accused of heinous acts from Janel Grant, a former employee of the company. Although there was a stay in the case, that won’t stop the updates from coming in.
Janel Grant alleged in a 67-page lawsuit filed in January that Vince McMahon forced her into a sexual relationship to keep her job and distributed pornographic content of her to other men in the company. This bombshell lawsuit shook up the entire pro wrestling world as Endeavor merged WWE and UFC in the wake of Vince McMahon coming back to usher in the deal.
In May, Janel Grant, a former WWE employee who filed a lawsuit in January against Vince McMahon, WWE, and former WWE executive John Laurinaitis, agreed to pause her legal action. Now, Vince McMahon’s legal team filed a motion to lift the court-ordered pause on the Janel Grant lawsuit.
The lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis, was put on hold in mid-June by Judge Jeffrey Meyer. This decision followed an agreement between both parties to pause the lawsuit after a request from the Department of Justice due to an ongoing federal investigation into McMahon. The earliest the lawsuit could have resumed was December 11, 2024. However, McMahon’s team has now changed their approach.
In a statement to Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston, McMahon’s lawyer Jessica Taub Rosenberg said that Grant violated her agreement to stay the case by “seeking one-sided discovery for her own benefit.” Because of that, McMahon’s legal team is arguing that she face civil contempt and financial sanctions if she doesn’t comply.
“Today’s motion is in response to Ms. Grant’s blatant disregard for the federal Stay Order. After agreeing to pause her lawsuit, Ms. Grant immediately violated the order by seeking one-sided discovery for her own benefit. Her lawyer admitted to the media that the new information sought in the Connecticut state action is intended ‘to assist in our claims in the federal action.’ We are requesting the federal Court to ensure that Plaintiff complies with the Court’s order, and if she does not, that she faces civil contempt and financial sanctions.”
Grant also alleges that in November 2019, under Vince McMahon’s direction, she was sent to a clinic where she received undisclosed treatments, including pills and IV infusions. McMahon claims that Grant violated the federal stay order by seeking discovery against Dr. Carlon Colker and Peak Wellness.
It is believed that the state action involves Grant’s attorneys filing a pre-action discovery petition against Peak Wellness and its owner/CEO Carlon Colker, seeking medical records related to Grant’s treatment at the clinic. This is connected to the sex trafficking lawsuit against WWE, McMahon, and Laurinaitis. We will keep our eyes peeled for more updates on this story as they are made available.
