Sami Zayn is the Intercontinental Champion after defeating GUNTHER for the title at WrestleMania 40, but he has other passions besides pro wrestling and that includes his comedy show and he has now explained how his stand-up career began.

With WrestleMania 40 in the rearview mirror, WWE fans are excited for next big event on the calendar: SummerSlam. Set to take place at the iconic Cleveland Browns Stadium on Saturday, August 3rd, SummerSlam definitely has a ton of hype behind it for good reason.

While speaking to WrestlingInc, Sami Zayn shared how his interest in comedy grew from his wrestling career. He explained that while he always enjoyed the comedic side of wrestling, the chance to pursue comedy professionally only recently emerged.

Zayn mentioned that an L.A. agent, who became his manager, recognized his potential and offered him a spot at the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival. This opportunity came around the same time WWE announced a partnership with Netflix, which Zayn thought was a good fit. He agreed to the festival but found it challenging to come up with new material for his act.

“Comedy is something I was always interested in,” Zayn said. “The comedic side of wrestling has always appealed to me. I’ve done a lot of that throughout my career. And then the opportunity just sort of came up not long ago when I got sort of an outside manager, like an L.A. agent manager type guy.

And it’s just something he saw in me and he found an opportunity for me to be a part of this really big comedy festival called Netflix is a Joke. And it being off the heels of the announcement that WWE would be partnering with Netflix, I thought ‘This could be an interesting fit.’ So I did it. Well, I agreed to it rather, and then I had to actually come up with the hard part, which is doing it and coming up with the show.”

Sami Zayn is set to host another comedy show during SummerSlam Weekend. WWE has announced ‘Sami Zayn & Friends Do Cleveland’ as part of the SummerSlam schedule, taking place on Friday, August 2 at The Agora Cleveland. We’ll have to wait and see how the comedy show will turn out in the end, as Zayn has been receiving rave reviews so far.
