CM Punk’s return at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event sent shockwaves across the world of professional wrestling thanks to its sheer electricity. Many assumed he was going to stick with WWE for a long time and it appears that is his intention as the reason for him renegotiating his WWE contract has been revealed.
CM Punk’s return to WWE was a big deal and changed things up a lot. Since coming back, he has become an important part of WWE, shaking up the storylines and adding excitement about where the company is headed. However, he had been injured for a long time after suffering a triceps injury at the Royal Rumble and hasn’t competed in a match since then.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that C Punk initially signed a short-term agreement, which is now up for renewal. Although there are rollover provisions in the contract that extend its duration, the renegotiation phase was anticipated to take place around this time.
Meltzer explained that there’s no immediate urgency for either side, as both WWE and Punk were aware that renegotiation would happen now. The process is described as smooth, with no issues reported between the parties. The focus is on finalizing the terms to ensure both sides are aligned with their goals moving forward.
“What happened when CM Punk came in, they had a short-term deal which is expiring now. Now there are rollovers in the deal so there’s not like a hurry that they have to sign him because the deal goes longer. But they knew all along that right around now would be when they would be renegotiating any deals…It was kind of known that that was going to happen now. Everyone is getting along fine. There’s nothing wrong with it or anything like that…He’s just hammering down the terms that everyone knew they were going to do at a certain point, which is now just to basically get everyone back on the page because they both know where they want to be.”
CM Punk revealed on the July 22nd episode of WWE Raw that he had been medically cleared to compete, paving the way for the anticipated match against Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam. With Punk set to stick around for a long time now, we’ll have to see how he will fare against The Scottish Warrior on August 3rd.
