AEW has several individuals working behind the scenes who aren’t seen on a weekly basis but continue to contribute significantly. One such person is Dean Malenko, whose voice was prominently featured in an intense Blood & Guts package on the July 24 episode of Dynamite. It seems Malenko’s health has improved after dealing with issues last year.

Malenko has openly discussed his experience with Parkinson’s disease, notably during a 2021 episode of Talk Is Jericho. In that interview, he explained how the condition affects him, including the shakes he experiences. He mentioned that his 15-year-old daughter often tries to lighten the mood by mimicking his shakes, acknowledging that there’s nothing he can do to eliminate the disease and that it will always be present. He expressed hope that modern medicine might slow the progression of Parkinson’s, but if not, he is prepared to deal with it as it comes.

Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that those backstage have noticed significant improvements in Malenko’s condition following his treatments. He is also very popular backstage due to his engaging personality

“Dean Malenko narrated the main event video package. He had surgery last year to help with his Parkinson’s, and many we’ve spoken to said he was like ‘a new man.’ He’s widely adored backstage and known for his sense of humor.”

It remains to be seen if AEW will find additional on-screen roles for Dean Malenko in the future. He has a strong fan base, and his involvement in the Blood & Guts package this year was well-received.
