In professional wrestling, injuries are unfortunately common and can lead to early retirements for many athletes. One such case is Corey Graves, who retired from in-ring competition due to injury. Recently, Graves criticized AEW for a dangerous spot during a match on Dynamite. His comments sparked a wave of backlash from the wrestling community. In response, his brother, Sam Adonis, has stepped up to defend him.

The controversial moment took place during the Blood & Guts match between Team AEW and Team Elite on the July 24th edition of AEW Dynamite. In a dramatic spot, Jack Perry, who was handcuffed to the cage, took a chair shot to the head from Darby Allin. Fans were hopeful that the chair was “gimmicked” to reduce the impact, but many believe it was a real shot.

Chair shots to the head are now considered highly dangerous due to their association with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. Corey Graves, whose own wrestling career was cut short by head injuries, took to social media to express his concerns about the risks involved and the importance of protecting each other in the ring.

Graves stressed that the potential for long-term damage and memory issues from such spots is not worth it. Despite his intention to promote safety rather than incite division, Graves ended up deleting his tweet amid the backlash.

”This is not meant to sound judgmental, or incite “us vs. them” or question anybody’s passion, or talent or intentions.
This is just coming from a guy whose career ended from a few too many ACCIDENTAL headshots.
The ART of this business is protecting ourselves and each other.
Trust me…the gaps in memory are not worth it. I promise.”

Corey Graves’ brother Sam Adonis took to Twitter and addressed Graves’ comments Sam Adonis defended Corey Graves after he faced backlash for his comments. Adonis thinks it’s fair for someone to speak up if their work is affected by mistakes, especially if those mistakes keep happening. He believes that people with firsthand knowledge have more valuable insights than just opinions.

”Crazy to think that people are mad at @WWEGraves for stating the obvious!

Imagine losing everything you’ve ever worked for due to a colleague’s mistake.

Now imagine seeing other colleagues making the same mistake deliberately?

Wouldn’t you chime in too?🤔

Knowledge>Opinion”

We have also reported that the chair shot was with a gimmick chair, but AEW President Tony Khan defended the spot anyway. Regardless, AEW might just avoid such spots in the future and that is for the best.
