CM Punk’s return at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event definitely shocked the world of professional wrestling since no one expected could. In fact, he has admitted that Vince McMahon’s WWE exit opened the door for his WWE return.
Vince McMahon was hit with serious allegations of sexual trafficking and misconduct from ex-WWE employee Janel Grant and it ensured that McMahon was gone from WWE for good.
After the sexual trafficking lawsuit, Vince McMahon officially resigned from WWE and TKO Holdings and even TKO COO Mark Shapiro made it clear that Vince McMahon will never return to WWE.
While speaking during an interview with Denise Salcedo at San Diego Comic-Con, CM Punk revealed that Vince McMahon’s departure played a significant role in clearing the path for his return.
Punk explained that his return wasn’t something he was actively pursuing or yearning for. He described the process as a series of events that needed to align perfectly—like a cosmic arrangement of stars. The departure of McMahon, he noted, was a pivotal factor that helped make his return possible.
Punk clarified that it wasn’t solely about personal issues between him and McMahon but rather the broader impact of McMahon’s absence on the company’s dynamics. This shift in the environment was significant for Punk, and he felt it changed many aspects of the situation, contributing to his decision to come back.
”No, because it was never a thing that I was yearning to do. There were a lot of things that had to happen for the pathway to kind of clear. The stars had to align. There had to be a full moon. A lot of dominoes fell in order for us to get here. There was a never a, ‘Man, I’d really like to go back.’ Vince (McMahon) being out of the picture probably illuminated the way. That might have been one of the biggest things. That’s both ways, for everybody who is going to sensationalize a headline. It wasn’t me, it wasn’t him, there’s just a lot of history there. All of a sudden, one of us is removed from the equation, and I think it changed a lot of things.”
We have also reported about WWE’s feelings towards CM Punk during his current contract negotiations, as it is clearly positive. WWE is clearly very high on the Second City Saint and he is also happy to be back and that is all that truly matters now.
