MJF Match Confirmed for 8/2 CMLL Viernes Espectacular

Earlier this year, MJF embraced his heel persona and has since been unstoppable, culminating in his recent win of the AEW International Title. Now, his opponent for the upcoming August 2 CMLL Viernes Espectacular show has been confirmed.

During the July 19 CMLL Viernes Espectacular event, AEW International Champion MJF made a video appearance while relaxing in a bathtub. In his message, he announced that he will be defending the AEW International Championship at the CMLL Viernes Espectacular event on August 2nd.

On the July 23 edition of CMLL’s Martes de Arena Mexico, the promotion held a special one-night tournament to crown the #1 Contender for MJF’s AEW International Championship.

In a solid conclusion to the tournament, Templario picked up the win, defeating Averno in the finals. Templario secured his win with an Avalanche Powerbomb off the middle rope, followed by a bridge pin. As a result, Templario will now challenge MJF in his AEW debut at Arena Mexico.

This upcoming bout will mark MJF’s first appearance for CMLL. His previous visit to Mexico was on October 5, 2019, where he defended the MLW Tag Titles alongside Richard Holliday as part of “The Dynasty” against La Real Familia (Hijo de LA Park & LA Park Jr) at the Tijuana Auditorium in Baja California, Mexico. Therefore, we will have to wait and see how MJF will fare in his first title defense next month.
