Top AEW star MJF recently opened up about the injury he sustained at AEW Full Gear 2023. In his match against Jay White for the AEW World Championship, The Salt of the Earth tore his labrum and dislocated his hip.

During his appearance on The Wrestling Classic, MJF recounted the ordeal, executing an elbow drop to impress the audience. However, his hip popped out of the socket, and he pushed through the pain to complete the match.

“In the match with Jay White, I hit an elbow drop from the top rope to the floor, trying to impress people I thought cared about me. My hip popped out of its socket, but I pushed through the pain for another 20 minutes.”

MJF also recounted the moment Jay White delivered a uranage off the top rope, causing him to land squarely on his left shoulder and completely tear his labrum. He described it as the most excruciating pain he had ever felt. Despite this, he agreed to participate in the press conference for the sake of the fans, who instead laughed at his misery.

“(White) hit me with a uranage off the top rope, and I landed directly on my left shoulder, snapping my labrum entirely in half. It was the most pain I’ve ever experienced. After the match, I was told to do a press conference, and I agreed, thinking I’d fight through the tears for the wrestling fans. Instead, they made memes and laughed about it. It was the most pain I’ve ever been in, and nobody cared.”

MJF recovered from all his injuries by taking time off for months, returning at Double or Nothing 2024 and defeated Will Ospreay to become the new AEW International Championship on AEW Dynamite last week.

However, MJF’s recount of the injury and its aftermath reveals the physical and emotional toll professional wrestling can take, highlighting the often unseen struggles of performers in the industry.

What are your thoughts on MJF revealing his Full Gear 2023 injury as the most excruciating pain he had ever felt? Do you think it was right on the fans’ part to make a mockery of his misery? Sound off in the comments!
