In January 2024, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan commented on former WWE superstar Jinder Mahal’s receiving a world title match on WWE RAW, pointing out that Mahal hadn’t won a televised match in a year.
During a virtual signing for K & S WrestleFest, Mahal, now known by his real name, Raj Dhesi, praised the same AEW star he criticized that time, HOOK. He recalled that Tony Khan had questioned the lack of backlash over Mahal’s championship match, pointing out that Hook had a record of 28-0 or 28-1.
Initially, Jinder Mahal responded with, “Who the —- is HOOK?” However, after watching him, Mahal grew to appreciate his style, demeanour, and overall approach to wrestling. He praised HOOK as representing the next generation and the evolution of professional wrestling, describing him as one of the best. Moreover, Mahal emphasized that their interactions on Twitter were just good fun and part of the wrestling world.
“Tony (Khan) said, ‘Where’s the backlash when Jinder’s getting a championship match? When Hook is 28-0 or 28-1 or something.’ I initially responded, ‘Who the —- is Hook?’ But then I actually started watching Hook and I really like his style. His demeanor, his style—everything about him. He represents the next generation, the next evolution of pro wrestling. Hook is one of the best. We’re just having fun on Twitter. It’s just wrestling.”
Moreover, with his 90-day non-compete clause expired after WWE release in April, Jinder Mahal is now free to compete for other promotions. He recently made a surprising appearance at the GCW High event, donning a mask and attacking an indie wrestler, delivering his signature move, the Khallas.
As Mahal explores new opportunities, speculation is rife about whether he will join AEW or another major wrestling promotion. Fans are eagerly awaiting his next move in the wrestling world.
