AEW has a few stars who are out of action for a variety of reasons. Now, we are getting a bit closer to Samoa Joe’s return to television. Got some time off to pursue another professional endeavor, but that project will be up in a couple of months.
Samoa Joe was written off television to film season two of the hit Peacock series Twisted Metal, based on the popular video game series. Joe played the physical role of Sweet Tooth, with Will Arnett providing the voice for the character.
PW Insider reports that Joe began filming the new season on July 17th in Toronto, with production expected to continue until October. While this doesn’t necessarily mean Joe will be absent until then, he will likely be missing for a significant portion of that time due to his major role in the series. Joe’s last match was a street fight against Chris Jericho, where he was driven through a wall.
Samoa Joe took a pretty brutal trip through a wall thanks to The Learning Tree, and Chris Jericho only thanked Joe for the spot. He also blamed him, as Jericho continued his heel character with a smile on his face. Only time will tell what Joe does to Jericho and his stable whenever he comes back.
AEW could certainly use Samoa Joe around, and it will be interesting to see how Tony Khan uses him next. He was very excited upon signing the Samoan Submission Machine, but after his run as AEW World Champion, he hasn’t been able to make his way back up to the top.
