AEW allows a lot of dangerous and violent spots during a lot of feuds and matches, but that doesn’t mean every single idea will be allowed. In fact, Tony Khan rejected one of Kingston’s ideas for a dangerous spot.

During the 1980s rivalry between Ric Flair and Terry Funk, Funk famously used a plastic bag to suffocate Flair at Clash of Champions VIII. Inspired by Funk, Eddie Kingston wanted to incorporate a similar spot into his feud with Chris Jericho in 2022.

Eddie Kingston talked about his attempt to use the plastic bag spot in an interview with Phil Schneider of The Ringer. He mentioned that he had inquired about using the plastic bag multiple times but was consistently told by Tony Khan that it was not permissible.

“Trust me, I know how Turner is scared about that because I’ve asked about the plastic bag several times. It was always walking in and Tony [Khan] going, ‘We’re not doing the plastic bag.’”

Despite not being able to use the plastic bag spot, Kingston and Jericho did face off in barbed wire ropes match on the July 20, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite. In the meantime, Kingston is out of action after suffering knee injury and undergoing surgery for the same, so we’ll have to see when Kingston will return to AEW television.
