Sami Zayn has been the Intercontinental Champion since defeating Gunther for the title at WrestleMania 40 and has been booked well as the champion since then. He is set for a huge match at SummerSlam and ahead of the event, he made a shocking admission about the event as well.

In a recent interview with Wrestling Inc, Sami Zayn expressed his desire to be part of this year’s SummerSlam event. Zayn shared that, despite his extensive career and notable success at WrestleMania in recent years, he has never actually participated in SummerSlam. He pointed out that even though it’s easy to act nonchalant, performing in front of 50,000 people is always significant, no matter the experience level.

Zayn reflected on his career, noting that he has a strong track record at WrestleMania, especially over the past few years. However, he mentioned that he has yet to compete in a SummerSlam match. He did recall participating in a SummerSlam pre-show, which took place in 2016, where he and Adrian Neville (now known as Pac) faced the Dudley Boyz in what turned out to be their final match as a team.

“No matter how many times you’ve done it, in my opinion. And we can play cool and act like it’s another day at the office; it’s not. It’s 50,000 people. That’s cool. I don’t care who you are.

“But it is funny that you mentioned, I’ve never actually been on SummerSlam. People don’t know that because I’ve had a really pretty decent career, and especially these last few years, I’ve had a really good WrestleMania track record, if you look back at all my WrestleMania’s, especially over the last three years.

“But if you go back my entire career, I’ve had a great WrestleMania track record. SummerSlam, I’ve never even been on the show. I did work one SummerSlam pre-show, I want to say maybe 2015 or something (it was 2016).

“And believe it or not, it was actually the Dudley Boyz last ever match as a team. So we do all that distinction myself and Adrian Neville at the time, Pac, as he’s known today.”

Bron Breakker also became the #1 contender to the Intercontinental Championship and will face Sami Zayn at SummerSlam, so we’ll have to wait and see if Breakker will end up winning the match and becoming the new champion.
